Are you passionate about supporting children with additional needs? Do you have a foundational understanding of British Sign Language (BSL) and a desire to make a meaningful impact?

We are seeking a British Sign Language Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a young student who is Deaf and non-verbal within a mainstream primary school setting. This child has recently relocated and is beginning their educational journey, requiring a gentle and nurturing approach.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide BSL translation and communication support on a 1:1 basis.
  • Assist in teaching the student BSL and developing their signing skills.
  • Work closely with teachers and support staff to ensure an inclusive learning experience.
  • Help the student transition smoothly into their new school environment with patience and encouragement.
Requirements:
  • Minimum BSL Level 1 qualification (the school will provide support to progress through BSL qualifications).
  • BSL Level 1–3 applicants are welcome.
  • A genuine passion for working with children with additional needs.
  • Ability to provide a kind, patient, and adaptable approach to learning.
  • Previous experience in a school or SEN support role is beneficial but not essential.
Job Details:
  • Fixed-term contract for the full academic year.
  • Immediate start preferred, but the school is willing to wait for the right candidate until September 2025.
  • Full-time, term-time only.
