Job description

Purpose of Role:

This role is crucial in delivering high-quality engagement with children to support their developmental needs while maintaining the highest levels of supervision. You must support and uphold our Keeping Everyone Safe policies and procedures, demonstrating and adhering to safe working practices.

Support observation and assessment standards in line with regulatory requirements and the Bright Beginnings, Bright Horizons curriculum to ensure a child-centred approach. Work in partnership with parents to support observation and planning processes, ensuring they meet the needs of all children in accordance with the Quality Assurance Framework. Strive for service excellence for our current and prospective customers by role modelling behaviour aligned with our HEART principles and Bright Promise to deliver exceptional care and education.

This role will also involve working with the room leader and Early Childhood Specialists to drive continuous improvement, embed inspiring early years pedagogy of the highest standard, and achieve regulatory compliance with better-than-National-Average inspection outcomes in the UK.

You will support in sharing and articulating the attributes of the Bright Horizons brand, establishing Bright Horizons as the provider of choice for families, corporate clients, and employees.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
  • Deliver the highest standards of care and education, maintaining a thorough knowledge of Policies, Procedures, child development, EYFS, Bright Beginnings curriculum, and regulatory standards.
  • Ensure adherence to internal policies, procedures, and legislation from governing bodies, demonstrating this through high standards of practice.
  • Support the delivery of the Bright Beginnings, Bright Horizons curriculum to ensure a child-centred approach, supporting observation and planning to meet all children's needs in line with the Quality Assurance Framework.
  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with all nursery stakeholders, including parents, professionals, and colleagues.
  • Maintain safety by following Keeping Everyone Safe policies and demonstrating behaviours that foster a high-performing safety culture.
  • Work as part of a team to complete essential daily tasks such as hygiene standards and room preparation.
  • Understand referral processes and engage with professionals to support child referrals when necessary.
  • Promote and support charities, including the Bright Horizons Foundation for Children.
  • Attend staff meetings and training for ongoing professional development to stay current and relevant in your role.
Responsible for:
  • Promoting and following behaviour management guidelines and supporting children to manage their feelings.
  • Ensuring children are fully supervised, safe, and well-cared for, leading by example to foster a safeguarding culture.
  • Providing clear communication and partnership with team members to meet all children's needs.
  • Understanding and applying effective staff deployment and child supervision in line with policies and standards.
  • Supervising meal times to ensure high supervision and adherence to policies.
  • Conducting risk assessments of all accessible areas and maintaining safety standards, exemplified through daily safety tasks.
  • Reading, understanding, and implementing safeguarding policies and procedures, including completing Child Protection training biennially.
  • Engaging in professional development activities to enhance nursery development and learning practices.
  • Delivering high-quality early childhood practices, including for children with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities, promoting emotional wellbeing through the curriculum.
  • Supporting record keeping and assessments, ensuring they reflect each child's needs, interests, and developmental stages.
  • Supporting children within your key group to meet developmental milestones.
  • Providing support to colleagues within the nursery and broader organization when needed.
  • Attending staff meetings and training to ensure continuous professional growth.
Essential Experience:
  • Proven ability to work as part of a team to complete daily tasks such as hygiene standards and room preparation.
  • Understanding of child protection and safeguarding.
  • Passion for continuous learning and personal development.
Experience Desirable:
  • Experience as a key person.
  • Current 12-hour Paediatric First Aid certification.
  • Knowledge of early years curriculum and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience in food preparation and relevant food management training.
  • Experience in the Early Years Sector.
  • Knowledge of Local Authority and Regulatory inspection processes across the UK.
  • Experience working within policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.
  • Experience working with children aged 0-2 years, in accordance with regulatory requirements, if applicable.
Qualifications:
  • Level 1 childcare qualification (Desirable).
  • 12-hour Paediatric First Aid (can be completed during induction).
  • Food Hygiene or equivalent training (can be completed during induction).
  • Safeguarding/child protection training, with a willingness to update regularly (can be completed during induction).
Personal attributes:
  • Effective communication skills with adults and children, using various techniques.
  • Ability to support and inspire children to achieve high standards of care and education.
  • Good workload and time management skills.
  • Competent in using ICT systems, with a willingness to develop these skills.
  • Enjoy working with colleagues and professionals across the organization.
