Job summary

BEAR Scotland is seeking a Bridge Maintenance Supervisor to lead a multi-trade team on major bridges within the NMC SE contract, including Kincardine and Clackmannanshire Bridges. You will manage safe delivery of planned maintenance, oversee technicians, and coordinate resources in a fast-paced environment.

The role requires a driving licence and a proactive focus on Health & Safety, with responsibilities spanning planning, scheduling, quality testing, and compliance with CDM regulations.

Qualifications

  • HNC in an Engineering discipline or a relevant Level 3 vocational qualification.
  • ICORR Level 1 Paint Inspector qualification or willingness to work towards.
  • ICATS certification in Industrial Blasting, Spraying and Painting – desirable.
  • Experience leading or supervising maintenance teams.
  • Ability to meet strict deadlines and manage competing priorities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Commercial awareness and understanding of cost-effective project delivery.
  • Experience working at height.
  • Experience working in confined spaces.
  • Full, valid UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

  • Manage administrative processes, including timesheets, annual leave, sickness records, HR documentation, material quotations, and small project activities.
  • Promote and maintain high standards of Health & Safety across all activities.
  • Deliver works in line with the cyclical maintenance programme.
  • Prepare work schedules, job plans, and estimates for maintenance activities.
  • Inspect completed works to ensure quality standards and specifications are met.
  • Produce, review, and implement Health & Safety documentation and risk assessments.
  • Lead and coordinate bridge rescue operations as required.
  • Provide flexibility to manage and support night-shift works when necessary.

BEAR Scotland is a leading provider of highway maintenance services across Scotland. We manage and maintain over 2,000km of Scotland’s trunk road network, tackling just about every imaginable task and working round the clock to help keep Scotland moving.

BEAR has responsibility for over 750 bridges and structures including the iconic Forth Road Bridge and Queensferry Crossing, as well as other major bridges such as the Kincardine Bridge and Clackmannanshire Bridge.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Bridge Maintenance Supervisor to join our NMC SE contract, supporting the Major Bridges Maintenance Team at the Kincardine and Clackmannanshire Bridges.

The successful candidate will lead and supervise a multi-trade workforce, ensuring the safe and efficient delivery of planned cyclical maintenance activities and associated works. You will play a key role in promoting a positive safety culture, ensuring all works are carried out in accordance with Health & Safety legislation and CDM regulations. Responsibilities shall include the supervision of a small team who carry out preparation and application of specialist coating systems including surface preparation, blasting, painting, and quality testing.

Our Engineering Trades Team comprises a diverse range of engineering and construction disciplines, creating a highly skilled and versatile workforce. You will be joining a knowledgeable and supportive team with extensive experience in bridge maintenance, providing an excellent opportunity to develop your skills and expertise.

A full UK driving licence is essential for this role.
