Job summary

Matchtech Group is seeking a Bridge Inspector to join a Design Inspection team in London on a contract basis for highway and rail projects. The role includes carrying out structural inspections, preparing detailed reports, and ensuring inspection programmes are delivered safely and on time.

Responsibilities cover inspections across highway/rail environments, report writing, KPI adherence, and safe working at height.

Qualifications

• Experience in structural inspections within highways, bridges or rail environments.
• HNC or equivalent qualification in Structural Engineering.
• BICS certification or progression towards Lantra accreditation.
• Strong knowledge of DMRB CS 450 standards.
• Experience using BridgeStation or other bridge management systems.
• Full driving licence; CSCS/SMSTS or equivalent.
• Good literacy, communication, organisational and commercial awareness.

Responsibilities

• Undertake structural inspections across highway and rail environments, including Principal and General Inspections.
• Complete inspection reports using BridgeStation and other formats.
• Work to KPI delivery times and inspection programme requirements.
• Manage own workload to meet inspection deadlines.
• Assess defects and apply appropriate scoring.
• Conduct inspections at height and in confined spaces following safety procedures.
• Maintain accurate records in BridgeStation and related databases.
• Undertake other duties to support contract delivery.

Job description

Our client is seeking a Bridge Inspector to join its Design Inspection team on a contract supporting highway and rail infrastructure projects in London. The role will involve carrying out structural inspections, preparing detailed reports and ensuring inspection programmes are delivered safely, accurately and within agreed timescales. The position may require night working and other antisocial hours.

Key Responsibilities:

• Undertake structural inspections, including Principal and General Inspections, across the highway and rail environment
• Complete inspection reports using the client's preferred formats, including BridgeStation and written reports
• Work to agreed KPI delivery timeframes and inspection programme requirements
• Manage an individual workload effectively while meeting scheduled inspection deadlines
• Assess bridge and structural defects, including applying appropriate BCI scoring
• Carry out inspections involving working at height and within confined spaces, following all relevant safety procedures
• Maintain accurate records using BridgeStation and other bridge management databases
• Undertake other reasonable duties required to support the successful delivery of the contract

Job Requirements:

• Experience in structural inspections within a highways, bridges or rail environment
• HNC or equivalent qualification in Structural Engineering
• BICS certification, or active progression towards accreditation through Lantra or a similar scheme
• Strong knowledge and understanding of DMRB standards, particularly CS 450
• Experience using BridgeStation and other bridge management systems
• Understanding of working at height, confined spaces and relevant site safety requirements
• Valid CSCS card, SMSTS or equivalent qualification, and a full driving licence
• Strong literacy, communication, organisational and commercial awareness skills
