The Opportunity

We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Bridge Engineer to join our Amey Consulting team, with shared office space in Newcastle. You will attend the office when necessary and work remotely on other days. We welcome applications from Bridges/Structural Engineers across this region.

Our Structures Team is expanding and involved in designing major civil engineering and infrastructure projects across Scotland, with cumulative values exceeding £1bn.

Amey manages the Southwest and Northeast Trunk Road Network Management contracts, awarded in 2020 and 2022 respectively, each extending up to 12 years. We also have a diverse portfolio of projects with Transport Scotland, Local Authorities, and contractors nationwide.

The role

As a Bridge/Structural Engineer, you will be involved in all project stages from inception to completion.

Key responsibilities include:

1. Producing technically sound engineering solutions.
2. Managing and supporting the technical delivery of projects.
3. Preparing designs, calculations, drawings, and documentation.
4. Mentoring junior staff.
5. Supporting professional development.
6. Liaising with clients and suppliers.
7. Working within a technical team and managing your activities within projects.
8. Contributing to bids and work-winning activities.
9. Promoting health and safety practices.
10. Applying sustainability practices in engineering.
11. Managing multi-discipline infrastructure projects.
12. Managing stakeholder relationships effectively.

What you will bring to us

• Ownership of deliverables.
• Knowledge of relevant software (e.g., LUSAS, Autodesk Structural Bridge Design).

• Understanding of CDM and risk assessments.
• Experience in hazard and risk management.
• Understanding of interface management.
• Working towards professional status (Incorporated or Chartered with ICE or IStructE).
• Degree in a relevant subject or equivalent experience.
