Job summary

HMP Peterborough is seeking an experienced Bricklaying Tutor to deliver vocational bricklaying training within a secure prison environment. You will plan lessons, schemes of work and practical activities, helping prisoners gain recognised skills for employment on release.

The role requires strong bricklaying experience, excellent communication, and a passion for rehabilitation. You will foster a safe learning environment and collaborate with colleagues to drive learner progress.

Job description

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Bricklaying Tutor to join the Industries Department at HMP & YOI Peterborough. This is a rewarding opportunity to support learners in developing practical bricklaying skills while helping to improve confidence, employability, and rehabilitation outcomes. Working as part of the Education, Skills & Work team, you will deliver engaging vocational training that supports prisoners in gaining recognised skills and preparing for employment on release.

HMP Peterborough is the UK’s first purpose‑built prison to house both men and women on the same site. With high levels of physical security, it provides needs‑led personal development services tailored to both populations. Main Responsibilities

The Ideal Candidate

Proven experience as a qualified Bricklayer with strong industry knowledge.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate learners.

Passion for education, rehabilitation, and supporting individuals to achieve positive outcomes.

Flexible, proactive, and enthusiastic approach to teaching and learner engagement.

Ability to adapt teaching methods to support learners with different abilities and needs.

Teaching or assessor qualification and/or experience working within a prison environment would be advantageous.

Package Description

From £32,987.47 - £38,801.01 depending on qualifications and experience

37.5 hours per week
