Job description
Overview

We are recruiting in the Breakfast Clubs and Wraparound team during a pivotal point in the programme as 750 state-funded primary schools across England have opened their breakfast clubs, accessible to all pupils and consisting of food provision and at least 30 minutes of supervised childcare before the start of the school day. The new Breakfast Clubs programme is at the heart of the government's work to break down barriers to opportunity, seeing this as a critical step to reducing child poverty and ensuring children start the day ready to learn and providing a safe and soft start to the day. This role will support the delivery of critical stakeholder management and communications as we manage a range of partnerships and external perspectives relating to the design and delivery of the programme. This role includes some project work and will deliver against Manifesto commitments on children\'s social care, early years childcare and breakfast clubs in primary schools.

We work closely with policy and delivery partners across DfE, in other government departments, local authorities and service providers in the public, voluntary and private sectors.

Responsibilities
  • Supporting a busy communications and engagement team with case studies, webinars and forums
  • Diary management for a DD job-share
  • Management of cross-team correspondence function, including business of state and mailboxes
  • Supporting delivery teams with booking meetings, note taking and other administrative tasks
  • Completion of the Public Service Delivery Officer (Level 3) apprenticeship and assessment against the essential criteria listed in the person specification
Qualifications and eligibility
  • Apprenticeship: Public Service Operational Delivery Officer (Level 3). Check eligibility requirements below using the apprenticeship standard.
  • Strong Organisational Skills: Ability to plan, prioritise, and manage multiple tasks effectively, especially under pressure.
  • Excellent Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Able to build positive relationships and communicate clearly with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Team Player with Initiative: Flexible, adaptable, and proactive in supporting colleagues and resolving issues independently.
  • IT Proficiency: Confident using Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Planner, Word, Excel, Teams, SharePoint, and PowerPoint.
  • You must have lived in the UK for 3 years prior to apprenticeship start date and not be undertaking another apprenticeship at the same time.
  • You must not already have a substantial amount of the skills and knowledge that is covered in the contents of the apprenticeship standard.
  • You must not have already worked in a similar role, or your previous learning, and/or work experience covers the contents (Knowledge, Skills, and Behaviours) of the apprenticeship standard.
  • Please do not apply if you already have all the skills and knowledge that is covered in the contents of the apprenticeship standard or you have a degree in Business Administration.
Interview and selection

Benefits and terms
  • Salary: £31,479 plus a Civil Service Pension: Department for Education contributes £9,119 towards your pension.
  • Leave: 25 days' leave, rising to 30 days after five years, plus King’s Birthday holiday and 8 bank/public holidays.
  • Flexible working arrangements including job sharing, term-time, flexi-time and compressed hours; hybrid pattern with 60% time in office or work setting.
  • Travel to your primary office location is not paid by DfE; travel to a different office may be reimbursed.
