Job summary

John Lewis Partnership is hiring a Supermarket Assistant Branch Cook for our back-of-house in the Partner Dining Room, preparing hot and cold food for Partners. When not cooking, you’ll assist the shop floor team, delivering excellent service and handling a variety of shopkeeping tasks.

Applicants must be 18+ due to age requirements and will work varied hours across seven days. This is a full‑time role with opportunities to support dining room and retail operations.

Qualifications

• Experience of working as a cook in a catering or hospitality environment.
• Passionate about food and serving a varied and nutritious menu.
• Customer focused with the ability to engage partners with the food on offer.
• Demonstrate commercial awareness, driving sales while controlling costs and wastage.
• Flexible and adaptable to work between kitchen and shop floor as needed.

Responsibilities

• Ensure the smooth running of the kitchen with support and direction from management.
• Maintain a clean, tidy, and safe kitchen environment.
• Ensure portion control, preparation, storage methods and due diligence to avoid food wastage.
• Adhere to high food hygiene standards.
• When not in the kitchen, provide great service to customers and support shop‑keeping tasks.
• Stock replenishment to keep shelves full and in the right place.
• Fulfilling online orders for drivers to deliver to customers.
• Reduce wastage by due diligence and markdowns on near sell‑by dates.
• Support wider shop team with checkout, Click & Collect, and on‑demand orders.
• Maintain a safe and tidy working environment with general shopkeeping tasks.
