The University of Leeds seeks a proactive Manager for the Bragg Centre for Materials Research. This role involves setting strategic direction, enhancing research impact, and managing stakeholder relationships. Do you have a background in developing high-quality research and innovation?
We are looking for a confident and proactive individual to help implement the Bragg Centre’s research and innovation strategy, and to maximise the reputation, research impact, and internal and external partnerships of the Centre.
As Manager of the Bragg Centre for Materials Research (www.leeds.ac.uk/bragg), you will drive engagement, collaboration, and cohesion across the advanced materials research community at Leeds, comprising more than 400 members. Alongside the Director, and guided by the management committee and external advisory board, you will set the Centre’s strategic direction and translate that vision into practice to establish the Centre as a hub for world-leading materials research and engineering. You will also co-develop activities with the Henry Royce Institute of Advanced Materials (www.royce.ac.uk), of which Leeds is a founding partner.
Your responsibilities include leading promotional, communication, and engagement strategies to maximize research impact. You will develop and nurture relationships to align the Centre with other research Centres and Institutes at the University of Leeds, fostering a network of research and innovation strengths.
The role involves management, engagement, reporting, and administrative duties, as well as supporting public engagement and schools outreach. You will be supported by a Centre Administrator and Communications Officer, whom you will line manage. The position requires collaboration with a broad range of stakeholders across and beyond the University, including senior management, academics, industry partners, marketing and communications staff, facility managers, technical officers, and research professionals.
Candidates should demonstrate a proven track record of leadership and management or administrative experience in Higher Education or equivalent, with the ability to develop strategies for the Centre’s sustainability. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, along with initiative, creativity, and diplomatic problem-solving abilities, are essential.
