Job summary

Farrer Barnes Ltd is recruiting an experienced Bookkeeping Manager for a well-established accountancy practice in Dartford. The role combines hands-on bookkeeping with team leadership, client relationship management, and shaping a growing function.

You will oversee a team of five, manage diverse client portfolios and ensure timely, accurate work. Experience with Sage 50, VT and QuickBooks is advantageous.

Qualifications

• Strong bookkeeping experience, ideally in an accountancy practice.
• Proven ability to lead a small team and manage client relationships.
• Excellent communication and organisational skills.
• Proactive, detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and compliance.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage a team of five, allocating workloads, reviewing work and monitoring deadlines.
• Provide guidance, support and training to develop team performance.
• Manage a diverse client portfolio and build strong, long-term relationships.
• Process invoices, balance accounts and maintain accurate financial records.
• Complete bank reconciliations, VAT returns and EC Sales Lists where required.
• Monitor aged debtors and creditors and ensure timely supplier payments.
• Resolve bookkeeping, VAT and general accounting queries, including incomplete records.
• Maintain high standards of accuracy, compliance and client service.
• Identify opportunities to improve processes and support the growth of the bookkeeping function.
