Job summary

Insite Group is seeking an experienced Bookkeeping Manager to own a varied client portfolio with genuine flexibility around when and how you work. This role offers hybrid working and both full-time and part-time options, designed for someone who wants real autonomy, client contact, and clear progression within a growing accountancy practice.

You will manage day-to-day bookkeeping, maintain accurate records, prepare VAT returns, and provide timely financial insights.

Qualifications

• Significant experience across all aspects of bookkeeping.
• Experience managing a portfolio of multiple clients.
• Strong VAT knowledge and experience preparing VAT returns.
• Excellent reconciliation and transactional accounting skills.
• Strong client communication skills.
• Experience with cloud accounting software, ideally Xero.

Responsibilities

• Manage your own portfolio of bookkeeping clients.
• Maintain accurate financial records for a range of businesses.
• Complete bookkeeping assignments through to deadlines.
• Prepare and review VAT returns.
• Manage bank reconciliations and control accounts.
• Process and review sales and purchase ledgers.
• Support clients with day-to-day bookkeeping queries.
• Work with cloud accounting software to maximise client benefits.
• Liaise directly with business owners and finance contacts.
• Identify and resolve bookkeeping issues efficiently.
• Ensure work is completed accurately and in line with requirements.

The Opportunity

As a Bookkeeping Manager, you'll manage a portfolio of clients across all aspects of their day-to-day bookkeeping requirements. You'll become a trusted point of contact, ensuring records are accurate, deadlines are met and clients receive a responsive, high-quality service.

This is a hands-on portfolio management role rather than a purely transactional bookkeeping position. You'll work closely with a variety of businesses, helping them maintain effective financial records and supporting them with their wider accounting requirements.

The role offers a high degree of autonomy, making it ideal for an experienced practice bookkeeper who is comfortable managing multiple clients and taking ownership of their work.

What you’ll be doing

• Managing your own portfolio of bookkeeping clients
• Maintaining accurate financial records for a range of businesses
• Completing bookkeeping assignments through to agreed deadlines
• Preparing and reviewing VAT returns
• Managing bank reconciliations and control accounts
• Processing and reviewing sales and purchase ledger information
• Supporting clients with day-to-day bookkeeping queries
• Working with cloud accounting software and helping clients get the most from their systems
• Liaising directly with business owners and finance contacts
• Identifying and resolving bookkeeping issues efficiently
• Ensuring work is completed accurately and in line with relevant requirements
• Working closely with the wider accountancy team to ensure a seamless service for clients

What we’re looking for

We're keen to speak with highly experienced bookkeepers who have previously managed a portfolio of clients, ideally within an accountancy practice or professional services environment.

You'll be confident managing your own workload and comfortable being the main point of contact for your clients.

You'll ideally bring:

• Significant experience across all aspects of bookkeeping
• Experience managing a portfolio of multiple clients
• Strong VAT knowledge and experience preparing VAT returns
• Excellent reconciliation and transactional accounting skills
• Strong experience with cloud accounting software, ideally including Xero
• Excellent organisation and time management skills
• Strong client communication skills
• A proactive and solutions-focused approach
• The ability to work independently while remaining part of a collaborative team

AAT qualification or relevant bookkeeping qualifications would be advantageous, although substantial practical experience will be equally valued.
