Overview

We are seeking an experienced Bookkeeper to join a small, friendly team in a well-established accountancy office based in Thanet. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone confident in managing bookkeeping and VAT responsibilities for a portfolio of varied clients.

The successful candidate will work closely with a team of five, providing essential support to SMEs across different industries, including sole traders, partnerships, landlords, trusts, and limited companies (non-audit).

The package includes £27-30K per annum, 28 days annual leave including bank holidays, office closure between Christmas and New Year, and company pension. 35 hours per week - Mon-Fri 9am-5pm with 1-2pm lunch break.

Responsibilities
  • Day-to-day bookkeeping for a range of clients
  • Preparing accounts up to trial balance
  • Managing VAT returns - high volume every two out of three months
  • Handling accruals, prepayments, and year-end adjustments
  • Supporting tax changes for landlords and sole traders ahead of the 2026 quarterly reporting requirements
  • Liaising with clients and the internal team to ensure accurate and timely reporting
Qualifications & Skills
  • Strong practical bookkeeping knowledge
  • Experience in practice (preferred) - accustomed to handling multiple client accounts
  • Proficient in QuickBooks Online (essential)
  • Working knowledge of Xero (advantageous; training available)
  • Comfortable using Excel, Dext, and other bookkeeping platforms
  • Experience preparing sole trader accounts
  • Ability to work independently and confidently up to trial balance
  • Clear communicator and team player
  • Adaptable and open to learning - particularly in light of upcoming tax and software changes
  • Payroll knowledge would be a bonus, but not essential
  • AAT, ICB qualified or qualified by experience - all considered
