Job summary

TPF Recruitment partnered with an award-winning accountancy practice in Bishop's Stortford to recruit an experienced Bookkeeper for their growing team. You will maintain accurate client records and deliver timely reporting in a fast-paced, client-focused environment.

The successful candidate will have a minimum of 2 years’ experience in bookkeeping, be proficient with cloud-based software (Xero, QuickBooks, Sage), and support VAT and PAYE compliance under HMRC rules.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of bookkeeping experience in practice.
• Experience with cloud-based accounting software incl. Xero/QuickBooks/Sage.
• Strong attention to detail and client-focused service.

Responsibilities

• Maintain up-to-date client financial records using cloud software.
• Process and reconcile bank and credit card transactions.
• Prepare monthly/quarterly financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow).
• Assist with VAT returns, PAYE, and HMRC filings.
• Organise and verify financial documentation from clients.
• Assist year-end accounts and support audits.
• Maintain secure filing systems (digital and physical).
• Identify and resolve discrepancies; escalate issues to senior accountants.
• Communicate financial status and deadlines with clients and teams.

As Bookkeeper, you will be central to maintaining reliable financial records, delivering timely reporting and supporting clients in meeting their statutory obligations under HMRC regulations and UK accounting standards. Responsibilities:

• Maintain accurate, up-to-date financial records for multiple clients using cloud-based accounting software (, Xero, QuickBooks, Sage).
