Team: Reporting to the Managing Director and working closely with the accounts team of 4

About the Business
A family-run business in the construction industry based in Burwell are looking for a dedicated Bookkeeper to cover a 12-month maternity leave. You will have the opportunity to be part of a team that values accuracy, organisation, and a collaborative approach to achieving great results.

Job Summary:
As the Bookkeeper, you will be responsible for handling the day-to-day financial transactions of the business. Working within the finance team and reporting directly to the MD, you'll ensure accurate financial reporting and smooth cashflow management. The role includes weekly cashflow management, accounts payable duties, VAT and CIS submissions, and subcontractor invoicing. You will work primarily with Xero and Dext, alongside the support of an external accountancy firm who handles year-end accounts and payroll.

Key Responsibilities:
• Bookkeeping Duties: Process and record all financial transactions, ensuring accurate and upto-date records in Xero.
• Weekly Cashflow Management: Monitor and manage the company's weekly cashflow to ensure funds are available for day-to-day operations.
• Accounts Payable (AP): Manage accounts payable, ensuring that all invoices are processed and paid on time.
• Subcontractor Invoices: Process and review subcontractor invoices, ensuring accuracy and compliance with the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS).
• CIS Submissions: Prepare and submit CIS returns for subcontractors as per HMRC requirements.
• VAT Submissions: Prepare and submit VAT returns, ensuring compliance with all relevant tax laws.
• Collaboration with Team: Work closely with colleagues to support the smooth running of the accounts function.
• External Accountant Liaison: Work in partnership with our external accountants for year-end accounts preparation, payroll, and tax filing.

Key Skills and Qualifications:
• Proven experience in bookkeeping or similar financial roles.
• Experience with accounting software, particularly Xero and Dext.
• Knowledge of CIS (Construction Industry Scheme) and VAT submissions.
• Strong understanding of accounts payable and general bookkeeping procedures.
• Ability to manage cashflow and ensure timely financial reporting.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and within a collaborative team environment.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Previous experience in the construction industry is an advantage but not essential.
• AAT qualification or equivalent is desirable but not required.
