Job summary

TPF Recruitment is supporting a multisited chartered accountants in recruiting an experienced Bookkeeper for their Melksham office. The role covers a varied portfolio of owner-managed businesses with duties including maintaining ledgers, VAT returns and client liaison.

The ideal candidate will have bookkeeping experience (ideally in practice), VAT understanding, and be proficient with cloud software such as Xero, QuickBooks or Sage. AAT qualification or progression is preferred.

Qualifications

• Proven bookkeeping experience, ideally in an accountancy practice.
• Strong understanding of VAT and bookkeeping principles.
• Familiar with cloud accounting software such as Xero, QuickBooks or Sage.
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
• Organised with ability to manage multiple deadlines.
• Confident, professional client communication.

Responsibilities

• Complete bookkeeping for a varied portfolio of clients.
• Maintain purchase and sales ledgers.
• Process bank transactions and reconciliations.
• Prepare and submit VAT returns.
• Produce management information when required.
• Work with cloud accounting software.
• Resolve client bookkeeping queries.
• Keep records complete, accurate and up to date.
• Liaise with accounts team and colleagues across the firm.

This is a straightforward and varied bookkeeping position, working with a portfolio of owner managed businesses across a range of sectors. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate accounting records and providing a reliable, high quality service to clients.

Responsibilities will include:

• Completing bookkeeping for a varied portfolio of clients
• Maintaining purchase and sales ledgers
• Processing bank transactions and completing reconciliations
• Preparing and submitting VAT returns
• Producing management information where required
• Working with cloud accounting software
• Resolving bookkeeping queries with clients
• Ensuring records are complete, accurate and kept up to date
• Liaising with the accounts team and other colleagues across the firm

Requirements

The ideal candidate will:

• Have previous bookkeeping experience, ideally within an accountancy practice
• Possess a good understanding of VAT and bookkeeping principles
• Be familiar with cloud accounting software such as Xero, QuickBooks or Sage
• Have excellent attention to detail
• Be organised and able to manage multiple deadlines
• Communicate confidently and professionally with clients
• Be AAT qualified, studying towards AAT or qualified by experience
