Job Description
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Bookkeeper to manage all aspects of the company's day-to-day financial transactions and record-keeping. This is a standalone role, and the successful candidate will be solely responsible for maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring the smooth operation of financial processes without direct support from a team. The ideal candidate will be self-sufficient, organised, and have a strong understanding of accounting principles and best practices.

You will play a critical role in ensuring the financial health of the organisation by providing accurate financial data, supporting decision-making, and maintaining compliance with financial regulations. This role offers the opportunity to make the position your own, contributing to the development of efficient processes and systems within the finance function.

This role is an office-based role at 4 or 5 days a week. The right person will have a minimum of an AAT Level 3 certificate in bookkeeping or ICB/IAB Level 3 equivalent and have experience in a similar field of a minimum of 3 years.

Requirements

  • Daily Transaction Recording: Accurately record and categorise all financial transactions, including income, expenses, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
  • Bank Reconciliation: Perform regular bank reconciliations to ensure that all financial data is accurate and up to date.
  • Invoicing & Billing: Generate and issue customer invoices, monitor accounts receivable, and follow up on overdue payments to ensure timely collections.
  • Accounts Payable Management: Process supplier invoices, track outstanding payments, and ensure timely payment of accounts payable.
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare monthly financial statements and reports, providing a clear overview of the company's financial position.
  • General Ledger Maintenance: Maintain and update the general ledger, ensuring that all accounts are accurate and balanced.
  • Compliance & Documentation: Ensure that financial processes and records comply with legal and regulatory requirements. Keep up to date with changes in accounting standards and relevant legislation.
  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to streamline and improve financial processes, enhance efficiency, and ensure smooth financial operations.
What we're looking for
  • Proven experience as a bookkeeper or in a similar role, with a strong understanding of accounting principles and financial processes.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines independently without direct supervision.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and consistency in financial record-keeping.
  • Experience in handling payroll processing, accounts payable/receivable, and general ledger maintenance.
  • AAT Level 3 certificate in bookkeeping or ICB/IAB Level 3 equivalent.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage time effectively.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential financial information with discretion.
  • A proactive, self-starter attitude, with the ability to take ownership of the role and make improvements where necessary.
