Job summary

Tata Technologies Ltd. is recruiting for a Body Shop Maintenance Engineer to be based at a customer site in Solihull.

You will provide technical support to maintain, troubleshoot, and optimise Body Shop production equipment and joining technologies to achieve safety, quality, delivery, cost, and OEE targets. In this role you will work with ABB, KUKA and Fanuc robots, support PLC-based automation, and contribute to continuous improvement and Industry 4.0 initiatives.

Qualifications

• Manufacturing maintenance experience within the automotive industry.
• Experience with: Spot Welding, SPR, FDS, Adhesive Systems, Robotics, Conveyors, Material Handling Systems, Electrical and mechanical fault diagnosis, PLC troubleshooting, Root Cause Analysis experience, Understanding of MTTR, MTBF and OEE.
• ABB, Fanuc or KUKA robots, Predictive Maintenance, Industry 4.0 systems, FACMON or similar manufacturing monitoring systems, TPM, Lean Manufacturing.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, troubleshoot and optimise Body Shop production equipment.
• Develop maintenance strategies and standards.
• Support robot systems (ABB, KUKA, FANUC) and PLC automation.
• Lead root-cause analysis and permanent corrective actions.
• Monitor KPIs such as availability, downtime, and OEE.

Due to our continued growth we are now recruiting for a Body Shop Maintenance Engineer to be based at our customer’s site in Solihull

Our Engineering Research and Development department (ER&D) is a fast-growing function within Tata Technologies, delivering exciting projects globally across Automotive, Aerospace, and Industrial Heavy Machinery sectors.

The Role

Provide technical support and engineering expertise to maintain, troubleshoot, improve, and optimise Body Shop production equipment and joining technologies to achieve Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, and OEE targets.

Area of Responsibility

Equipment Reliability & Maintenance

• Support preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities across Body Shop equipment.
• Diagnose and resolve complex equipment breakdowns affecting production.
• Improve equipment reliability, availability, and maintainability.
• Develop maintenance strategies and standards.
• Monitor equipment condition and support predictive maintenance initiatives.
• Reduce downtime through root cause analysis and permanent corrective actions.

Provide specialist support for:

• Resistance Spot Welding (RSW)
• Flow Drill Screw (FDS)
• Automated Bolting Systems
• Clinching & Riveting Systems
• Laser Welding (where applicable)

These technologies are critical maintenance areas within JLR Body Shops.

Robotics & Automation

• Support ABB, KUKA and Fanuc robotic systems.
• Troubleshoot robot faults and recovery issues.
• Improve robot uptime and cycle time performance.
• Support PLC-based automation and material handling systems.

Continuous Improvement & Problem Solving

• Reduce MTTR through structured analysis.
• Standardise maintenance practices and procedures.
• Participate in Kaizen and Lean Manufacturing activities.
• Support implementation of Industry 4.0 and predictive maintenance solutions.

Lead Root Cause Analysis using:

• Develop and implement permanent corrective actions for recurring failures.

Documentation & KPI Monitoring

Create and maintain:

• Breakdown Recovery Procedures

Monitor:

• Technical Availability (TA)
• Downtime Losses
• Launch & Commissioning Support
• Support installation and commissioning of new equipment.
• Participate in buy-off activities.
• Support production ramp-up and launch readiness.
• Support equipment modifications and capacity enhancement projects.

Knowledge / Experience

• Manufacturing maintenance experience within the automotive industry.
• Experience with: Spot Welding, SPR, FDS, Adhesive Systems, Robotics, Conveyors, Material Handling Systems, Electrical and mechanical fault diagnosis, PLC troubleshooting, Root Cause Analysis experience, Understanding of MTTR, MTBF and OEE.
• ABB, Fanuc or KUKA robots, Predictive Maintenance, Industry 4.0 systems, FACMON or similar manufacturing monitoring systems, TPM (Total Productive Maintenance), Lean Manufacturing.
