Job Description

Purpose of the role

To provide data-led expert oversight, checking, and challenging on business and compliance matters to ensure the organization operates in accordance with Barclays' legal, regulatory, and ethical responsibilities.

Accountabilities

  1. Identify and assess compliance risks through thorough reviews of business activities, changes, processes, testing, and systems.
  2. Identify and investigate potential market abuse, including but not limited to, insider dealing, unlawful disclosure, market manipulation, or anti-competitive conduct.
  3. Conduct investigations of compliance risk events or breaches and oversee corrective actions and preventative measures.
  4. Implement compliance policies and procedures aligned with regulatory requirements and international standards, including jurisdictional specifics.
  5. Collaborate with 1LOD, other compliance teams, legal, and risk management functions for a comprehensive approach to compliance and risk management.
  6. Identify, investigate, and oversee potential money laundering, terrorist financing, or other financial crimes.

Director Expectations

  • Manage a business function, contributing to strategic initiatives, policies, and procedures, and leading multiple complex projects.
  • Manage a large team or sub-function, or act as a technical expert and thought leader in organization-wide projects.
  • Provide expert advice to senior management and influence decisions across functions.
  • Manage resourcing, budgeting, and policy creation for a significant sub-function.
  • Escalate policy breaches appropriately and foster compliance.
  • Monitor and influence external regulatory and advocacy environments.
  • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of industry practices and external market developments.
  • Use advanced analytical skills to solve complex problems and design solutions.
  • Make significant strategic decisions and influence stakeholders at senior levels.
  • Act as a principal contact for key clients and counterparts.
  • Represent the function and business division externally as a spokesperson.
