Job summary

A leading yacht manufacturing company based in Southampton is seeking a Boat Build Designer. This multi-disciplinary role requires producing detailed drawings for production, working with NX 3D CAD for digital modeling, and maintaining accurate documentation. Ideal candidates will have extensive experience in yacht production techniques, strong CAD skills, and the ability to collaborate across teams to ensure efficient builds. A degree in engineering or design is advantageous but relevant experience will also be considered.

Qualifications

  • Extensive knowledge of yacht production techniques and processes.
  • Good knowledge of sailing systems and marine systems.
  • Experience in Design related role with an understanding of production processes.

To supply detailed drawings and information to support the Production of Oyster Yachts. As multi-disciplined role, the Boat Build Designer is responsible for interior joinery, exterior outfit fabrications, non-standard options chosen by the client and Production support during build.

The role will work within a team of Designers/Naval Architects /Project Managers to optimise the overall design.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Produce drawings and information for manufacture.
  • Work with NX 3D CAD to produce a Digital Twin of the yachts.
  • Maintain the 3D model to an accurate state for Production to use during build.
  • Produce interior fit out drawings suitable for internal or outsourced build.
  • Develop the modular build methodology to streamline future projects.
  • Produce internal and external fabrication drawings for manufacture.
  • Maintain the drawing library with on-time issuing and version control as an accurate record of the build.
  • Produce drawings on time to Design Plan/Group Schedule/NPD Program
  • Assess and complete any relevant Design Change Requests.
  • Investigate and develop new technology.
  • Provide production support
  • Assist Sales and Project Management with customer options, from quotation and preliminary design to production ready designs as required.
Requirements

Knowledge

  • Extensive knowledge of interior fitout construction and the CNC process essential.
  • Extensive knowledge of yacht production techniques and processes.
  • Good knowledge of sailing systems and functions would be beneficial.
  • Good knowledge of marine systems used within yachts would be beneficial. Excellent knowledge of NX CAD Software would be beneficial.
  • Knowledge of design principles and practice.

Skills

  • Excellent skills with 2D and 3D CAD software including Siemens NX.
  • Communication, able to explain drawings to non-designer to aid production process.
  • Problem solving.

Experience

  • Experience in Design related role.
  • Experience of working in manufacturing and an understanding of the production process.
  • Practical manufacturing experience would be beneficial.
  • Design or practical experience in the yachting sector would be beneficial.
Qualifications
  • An Engineering or Design-related degree would be advantageous, relevant experience will be taken into consideration.

Other Requirements
