Job Title: Boarding House Chef
We are seeking a Boarding House Chef responsible for supporting the Catering Team in providing nutritionally balanced meals for boys within the Boarding House. This role is key to enhancing the boys' experience of College life, which also involves active participation in the House community, including sports, plays, and musical productions.
Working Pattern
- 40 hours per week, 40.6 weeks per year, paid over 12 months
- 5.6 weeks of holiday, to be used during school holidays; additional days off for bank holidays during term
Note: Interviews may be held before the closing date, and the job may close early if applications are numerous. Early application is advised.
Main Duties
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
- Preparation and service of the boys’ mid-morning snack (Chambers)
- Preparation and service of Boarding House functions
- Preparation and serving of weekly year group evening meals (approx. 15 guests)
- Cover for other Boarding House Chefs as needed
- Undertake other duties as reasonably required
- Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, including following Child Protection procedures and undertaking relevant training
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to relevant procedures and legislation
Boarding House Chef Duties
- Prepare, cook, and serve all house functions
- Complete daily food safety and allergen paperwork
- Order food supplies as needed
- Clean kitchen and servery daily
- Support in meal preparation for other College events and houses
- Support College catering services, including stock takes and compliance with hygiene policies
- Attend training sessions and be flexible to work across the College
- Collaborate with House Master and staff to promote nutritional awareness among boys
- Perform other reasonable duties to ensure smooth catering operations
The Ideal Candidate
- Experienced Assistant/Junior Cook or Chef
- Qualified to Level 2 Professional Cookery or equivalent
- Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate
- Experience in allergen control and food safety legislation
- Ability to coordinate event hospitality
- Flexible, detail-oriented, and committed to high standards
- Team player with good relationship-building skills
- Self-motivated, able to work independently, and good at time management
