Information Governance Manager / Deputy Data Protection Officer

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is seeking a skilled and highly motivated Information Governance Manager/Deputy Data Protection Officer to lead a dynamic and committed Information Governance Team to contribute to the ongoing work ensuring the Board meets its legal obligations in this challenging and complex area.

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is the largest healthcare provider in Scotland, serving a population of approximately 1.3m, through the provision of a comprehensive range of Acute, Mental Health and Community Care services. Responsibilities
  • Lead the Information Governance team, working to reduce the risk of non-compliance across the Board with regard to the Data Protection Act 2018, UK General Data Protection Regulation, Caldicott Principles, Access to Health Records Act 1990 and other associated legislation and policies.
  • Advise on aspects of the Public Records (Scotland) Act 2011.
  • Inform, influence and direct the NHS Board and its Partner Agencies including the Police and Local Authorities on all aspects of Information Governance and deal with a range of complex IG issues which will require interpretation.
  • Advise on completion of Data Protection Impact Assessments, Information Sharing Agreements, as well as the application of data protection principles to research and innovation projects and the wider data processing carried out by the Board.
  • Act as Deputy Data Protection Officer.
  • Demonstrate the ability to interpret complex legislation and litigation relating to Information Governance and its practical application and manage a team of Information Governance staff to support the Board's requirements.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Detailed knowledge of Data Protection Legislation and the Caldicott Principles, with experience in providing advice and support on related matters.
  • Experience within the NHS is beneficial; applications from candidates with appropriate Information Governance experience in other areas are encouraged.
  • Strong management, organisational and people skills with excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Educated to Degree level or equivalent and able to demonstrate significant experience in data protection.
  • Ability to lead and adapt in a digitally evolving environment; NHSGGC has an ambitious 2023-2028 Digital Strategy and Information Governance is pivotal to supporting transformational change.
