Up to £58,000 + Company Car or £6,825 Car Allowance + Bonus + Benefits
If you’re an experienced BMS engineer based in Yorkshire, a move needs to offer more than a different company name and another list of PPM visits. This role combines BMS service and fault-finding with the engineering and commissioning of smaller controls works across Yorkshire. You’ll maintain and diagnose existing BMS systems, carry out condition surveys and recommend further work, but you can also get involved in software, controls procurement, commissioning and taking smaller works through to customer handover. It’s a Yorkshire-based field role suited to engineers living around Leeds, Bradford, Wakefield, Huddersfield, Sheffield or within practical reach of the wider territory. You’ll receive up to £58,000 plus a company car or £6,825 car allowance, performance-related bonus and wider benefits.
Your workload will combine planned maintenance, reactive BMS fault-finding and small-works commissioning across customer sites in Yorkshire. On the service side, you’ll investigate how existing control systems are performing, maintain software and strategy backups and carry out condition surveys where required. You’ll produce useful site reports explaining what you found, what you’ve done and what you recommend happens next. Where further BMS work is required, your involvement can extend beyond identifying the problem. On smaller works, you can create software, produce wiring and commissioning schedules, procure controls equipment and prepare technical documentation including Descriptions of Operation and O&M information. You’ll commission the controls, make sure the installation meets the design requirements and take smaller projects through demonstration and handover.
If you already have a reasonable BMS service job in Yorkshire, another maintenance position alone probably isn’t a compelling reason to move. The difference here is the technical breadth around the service work.
You can combine:
There’s also the opportunity to broaden your platform knowledge. The role can involve Trend, Tridium, Schneider, Siemens and ALC environments, alongside Niagara-based systems. You’ll need solid experience with at least one relevant platform, and additional systems training is provided where necessary. That means you can build on the BMS knowledge you already have rather than needing to arrive experienced across every system.
You’ll need proven hands-on BMS service, commissioning or controls engineering experience. You should have experience with at least one of the following:
You’ll need a sound understanding of HVAC systems, electrical competence and the ability to interpret and modify existing BMS control strategies. This is also a customer-facing role. You’ll need to investigate issues independently, explain technical findings clearly and turn them into practical reports and recommendations. You may also supervise junior engineers and coordinate subcontractors where required.
Service engineering isn’t completely predictable. Alongside planned maintenance and small works, you’ll attend reactive call-outs and breakdowns in accordance with customer SLAs. You’ll also need to be comfortable covering customer sites across Yorkshire. Whether you’re working around West Yorkshire, South Yorkshire or elsewhere within the territory, this is a field-based position rather than a single-site role. The technical workload varies too. You may move from fault-finding an existing BMS to surveying proposed improvements or commissioning a smaller controls project through to handover.
This role gives you a practical way to broaden your BMS capability while remaining hands-on. Alongside maintaining and fault-finding existing systems, you can develop further experience in condition surveys, software creation, controls procurement, commissioning, project documentation and customer handover. You’ll work in environments containing systems such as Trend, Tridium, Schneider, Siemens and ALC, with additional systems training provided where necessary. There can also be opportunities to build experience through supervising junior engineers and coordinating subcontractors.
