Mitie has over 77,000 people, multiple office locations, and thousands of customers across the country. There's no limit to what you can achieve if you work for us.

Plan Zero is Mitie's initiative to make net-zero carbon happen. Our knowledge of customer estates, combined with our ability to execute a zero-carbon strategy from assessment through to delivery, is, we believe, unrivalled. Our customers include the biggest organisations in the UK, and to date, we have saved them over [amount] tonnes of carbon.

We believe every organisation has a responsibility to act to reduce their impact on the planet, and we are recruiting talented, passionate people to help us make Plan Zero happen.

Our key drivers are Zero Carbon, Zero Waste, and Significant Biodiversity Net Gain.

How you will make Plan Zero happen?

In this dynamic and demanding position, you will play a key role in the Design, Integration, and Commissioning of Building Management Systems (BMS).

You will directly contribute to the Mitie Energy Business goal of achieving “net zero” for our clients through the installation and commissioning of BMS controllers and IoT equipment.

This project-focused role complements our parallel services of BMS Service and Energy Performance Contracts, which aim to drive savings and improve efficiency for our clients.

In addition to BMS installations & commissioning, there will be a need to design controller strategies for new project works, including the integration of different systems such as IoT.

What will you do day to day?

This role requires extensive interaction and collaboration with team members, along with a disciplined approach to planning and delivery. This will include:

  • Providing an exceptional level of professionalism in delivering site solutions from initial mobilisation through to final commissioning and demonstration.
  • Designing and configuring controller strategies/schematics for BMS solutions including Trend, Tridium, and Distech.
  • Proactively adopting project tasks and coordinating delivery with project managers, engineers, and sub-contractors.
  • Carrying out site visits during mobilisation to understand plant and site requirements, ensuring software strategies and schematics match.
  • Creating and utilizing standard strategy and schematic designs for ease of understanding and adoption.
  • Completing commissioning of the Graphics Head End on site.
  • Mentoring and coaching controls engineers to develop skills and knowledge.
  • Owning the commissioning of new BMS installations and the Graphics Head End, ensuring delivery to client expectations.
  • Supporting surveys, proposals, and quoting for new projects.
  • Assisting with PPMs and reactive callouts on selected sites if required.
  • Sharing knowledge and supporting colleagues across projects and controls operations.
  • Verifying software strategy design throughout commissioning and delivering documented evidence of system operation.

Who will you work with?

The National BMS Projects and Operations team consists of over 50 engineers, managers, and support staff. You will be an integral part of this team, working alongside and under the guidance of Project Managers and the Regional Operations Manager. This role involves a mix of on-site activities and remote work for design tasks.

Experience & Skills

  • Knowledge and experience at least at the Trend Expert competency level, with the ability to modify energy-biased software and schematics confidently.
  • Strong knowledge of Trend SET software.
  • Ability to integrate solutions/systems via protocols such as Modbus, MBus, BACnet.
  • Good understanding of IT networks and IP configurations.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with customers and suppliers, focusing on problem-solving.
  • Basic understanding of Metering and Open Protocol solutions.
