I’m working on behalf of a forward-thinking, sustainability-driven organisation to recruit a Business Development Manager within the Building Optimisation sector. This is a key commercial role focused on identifying, developing, and converting high-value opportunities across targeted markets.

This is not just a sales role — you’ll play a critical part in shaping the strategic and financial future of the business by aligning client needs with innovative optimisation solutions. The ideal candidate will be proactive, consultative, and capable of delivering real, measurable value to clients.

What You’ll Bring

  • Proven experience in a proactive, “hunter” sales role within BEMS, Building Optimisation, or Energy Efficiency
  • Proficiency in CRM platforms (e.g., Salesforce, HubSpot)
  • Strong grasp of structured sales methodologies (e.g., MEDDIC, Challenger, SPIN)
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills
  • Strategic thinker with commercial acumen and analytical strength
  • High resilience, curiosity, and motivation to exceed targets
  • A collaborative mindset and passion for sustainability
  • Full UK driving licence and the right to work in the UK

I understand that not every candidate will tick every box. If you have relevant experience and share a passion for energy efficiency and sustainability, I’d still love to hear from you.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Identify and develop new business opportunities across target sectors through insight-led strategies and proactive outreach
  • Build and maintain trusted, long-term relationships with prospective clients, from operational leads to C-suite decision-makers
  • Lead the full sales cycle — from initial engagement through to contract completion — ensuring a consultative, client-first approach
  • Understand complex client challenges and position tailored solutions that support their strategic goals and deliver measurable value
  • Develop compelling proposals and presentations, collaborating with internal teams to maximise win rates and commercial impact
  • Drive revenue growth through strategic cross-selling and upselling across Building Optimisation, Energy, and Net Zero service lines
  • Oversee the smooth transition of contracts into delivery, ensuring a high-quality handover and positive client onboarding experience
  • Monitor early-stage service performance, supporting resolution of issues and feeding insights back into business development strategy
  • Stay current with market developments, policy changes, and technological innovation in the energy and built environment sectors
  • Promote digital tools and platforms to strengthen long-term client engagement and improve service delivery
  • Collaborate with Marketing, Operations, and Leadership teams to shape commercial strategy and enhance client experience
  • Represent the business at key industry events and client forums to raise brand awareness and identify new routes to market

Benefits Include

  • 25 days annual leave (rising to 28 with service) + bank holidays
  • Option to buy/sell up to 3 days leave annually
  • 5% matched contributory pension
  • Car allowance
  • Commission scheme
  • Life insurance and private medical cover
  • Enhanced family leave
  • Employee assistance program and online GP
  • Cycle to work & EV schemes
  • Annual railcard & flu jab
  • Professional development and sustainability allowance
  • Paid volunteer day
  • Sustainable travel days
  • Support for one professional membership fee per year
  • Employee referral reward scheme
