Job summary

Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital invites applications for a Band 3 biomedical support worker to join the blood transfusion laboratory. The role supports biomedical scientists with testing blood samples and preparing blood components, with full training and development on the job and opportunities for progression.

Post requires joining a 24/7 shift roster; suitable for motivated individuals. NHS benefits and extensive staff facilities are offered as part of the role.

Qualifications

• NVQ level 3 or working towards it or equivalent experience.
• Ability to work efficiently within a multidisciplinary team and under pressure.
• Ability to work unsupervised during night shifts.

Responsibilities

• Performs a range of routine and non-routine duties within blood transfusion.
• Obtains samples for biological testing, performs standard tests, and processes blood/fluids for analysis.
• Daily use of Pathology IT systems to input patient demographics and test data accurately.
• Provides information and advice to service users concerning the supply of blood components, including emergencies.
• Communicates effectively, with training to manage emergencies while maintaining compliance.
