Antech Diagnostics in Leamington Spa is seeking a Blood Sciences Manager to lead haematology, clinical chemistry, and related disciplines. You will manage day-to-day operations, oversee analyser maintenance, ensure QA/QC, and drive continuous improvement while mentoring a team of laboratory professionals.

The role emphasizes leadership, technical expertise, and collaboration across the lab to deliver accurate, timely diagnostic services for veterinary practice partners.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Science or equivalent in a relevant field.
• Recent experience in a high-throughput automated diagnostic laboratory with analyser operation and QC.
• Line management experience including recruitment and performance management.
• Experience working within a Quality Management System (ISO 15189/ISO 17025).
• Strong knowledge of haematology and automated haematology/chemistry analysers.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day activities across haematology, clinical chemistry, coagulation, urinalysis, cytology and serology with staffing and resources management.
• Lead, coach and develop associates including recruitment, onboarding, training and performance management.
• Provide technical expertise across Blood Sciences; participate in benchwork when required.
• Oversee analyser operation, calibration, maintenance and troubleshooting with internal teams, suppliers and engineers.
• Manage departmental inventory and ensure availability of equipment, reagents and consumables.
• Maintain QA, QC, Health & Safety and SOP adherence and drive continuous improvement.
• Collaborate across the laboratory to ensure efficient service and support Customer Service and veterinary clients.

Job Type: Permanent, Full Time

Hours: 37.5 hours per week. Start times between 5am - 8am / Shifts are Tuesday - Saturday

You will lead the day-to-day operation of our Blood Sciences departments, combining strong scientific expertise with effective people leadership to deliver accurate, timely and high-quality diagnostic services that support veterinary professionals and animal health.

Key responsibilities include:

• Lead day-to-day activities across haematology, clinical chemistry, coagulation, urinalysis, cytology and serology, ensuring workloads, staffing and resources are effectively managed.
• Lead, coach and develop associates, including recruitment, onboarding, training and performance management.
• Participate in routine benchwork and provide technical expertise across Blood Sciences when required.
• Oversee analyser operation, calibration, maintenance and troubleshooting, working with internal teams, suppliers and engineers to resolve technical issues.
• Manage departmental inventory and ensure appropriate availability of equipment, reagents and consumables.
• Maintain compliance with Quality Assurance, Quality Control, Health & Safety and relevant SOPs, contributing to their review and continuous improvement.
• Work collaboratively across the laboratory to maintain an efficient and responsive service.
• Provide technical support to Customer Service and veterinary clients, resolving sample and testing queries where appropriate.
• Monitor departmental performance, prepare reports and analyses, and contribute to budget planning and laboratory-wide initiatives.
• Drive continuous improvement, supporting high standards of quality, efficiency and customer service.

Work Experience

• Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent) in Biomedical Science or a relevant scientific discipline.
• Proven, recent experience in a high-throughput, automated clinical diagnostic laboratory, including analyser operation, QC, specimen preparation, result review and release, and equipment troubleshooting.
• Proven line management experience, including recruitment and performance management.
• Experience working within a Quality Management System such as ISO 15189 or ISO 17025.
• Strong technical knowledge of haematology, including blood smear morphology, manual differentials, analyser flags and appropriate follow-up investigations.
• Practical experience with automated haematology and clinical chemistry analysers, including setup, maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Competence in routine urinalysis, including physical, chemical and microscopic examination.
• Knowledge of cytology sample preparation, fixation and staining, and previous experience with serology testing such as ELISA or IFA.
• Excellent leadership, communication, organisational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to prioritise effectively in a fast-paced environment.
• A collaborative, resilient and customer-focused approach, with a commitment to quality and continuous improvement.
• Veterinary diagnostic laboratory experience is desirable but not essential.
