Job summary

Circle Health Group is seeking a Biomedical Scientist to join the Blood Sciences department in London. The role covers Clinical Chemistry, Haematology, Immunology and Serology with a 37.5 hour week and a flexible shift pattern.

The successful candidate will hold HCPC registration, a Biomedical Science degree and at least five years’ multidisciplinary Blood Sciences experience. The position offers competitive salary and comprehensive benefits within a leading private healthcare provider.

Qualifications

• BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science or equivalent acceptable for HCPC registration.
• Current HCPC registration as Biomedical Scientist.
• Minimum 5 years' experience in multidisciplinary Blood Sciences.
• Practical laboratory training with diagnostic capability.
• Knowledge of laboratory analytical techniques relevant to the discipline.
• Understanding of ISO 15189 and UKAS requirements in medical labs.
• Ability to analyse/validate/authorise results within competency framework.
• Ability to identify abnormal/critical results and respond appropriately.

Responsibilities

• Receive, process, analyse and report patient specimens using appropriate techniques and instrumentation.
• Undertake routine and, where trained, complex and specialist investigations.
• Perform advanced investigations requiring technical knowledge and judgement.
• Provide scientific and technical advice to clinicians regarding lab results.
• Work within Quality Management System and support ISO 15189/UKAS compliance.
• Operate complex lab instrumentation safely and maintain records.
• Support induction, training and development of staff and trainees.
• Prioritise workload to meet turnaround times and service standards.
• Ensure specimens are handled and stored properly through the diagnostic pathway.

We have an opportunity for a Biomedical Scientist join their team of staff in theBlood Sciences department.

This is a full time role for 37.5 hours a week. The role holder will be required tocover a flexible shift pattern.

This is a multidisciplinary Blood Sciences position requiring expertise across several laboratory disciplines. The successful candidate will be expected to work within Clinical Chemistry, Haematology, Immunology, and Serology, contributing to a high-quality diagnostic service.

Duties of this role include:

• Receive, process, analyse and report patient specimens using appropriate scientific techniques, instrumentation and methodologies within your scope of practice.
• Undertake routine and, where appropriately trained and competent, complex and specialist laboratory investigations.
• Undertake complex investigations and specialist techniques requiring advanced technical knowledge, experience and professional judgement.
• Provide appropriate scientific and technical advice to clinicians and other healthcare professionals regarding laboratory investigations.
• Work in accordance with the laboratory Quality Management System and support compliance with ISO 15189 and relevant UKAS accreditation requirements.
• Operate complex laboratory instrumentation safely and competently in accordance with manufacturer requirements and laboratory procedures.
• Support the induction, training, competency assessment and development of Medical Laboratory Assistants, trainee Biomedical Scientists and other laboratory colleagues.
• Manage and prioritise your workload effectively to support agreed laboratory turnaround times and service standards.
• Ensure specimens are handled, prepared, stored and processed appropriately throughout the diagnostic pathway.

Applicants should meet the following criteria:

• BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science, or an equivalent qualification acceptable for HCPC registration.
• Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Biomedical Scientist.
• Minimum 5 years' experience working in multidisciplinary Blood Sciences.
• Appropriate practical laboratory training and demonstrated competence within a diagnostic laboratory environment.
• Knowledge and practical understanding of laboratory analytical techniques relevant to the discipline.
• Understanding of quality management, Internal Quality Control and External Quality Assessment principles.
• Understanding of ISO 15189 and UKAS requirements within medical laboratories.
• Ability to analyse, validate and authorise laboratory results within an agreed competency framework.
• Ability to recognise abnormal, critical or potentially erroneous results and respond appropriately.
• Experience using laboratory instrumentation and Laboratory Information Management Systems.
• Proven practical experience in:

  - Serology
