Job description

This post is a Fixed Term/ Secondment until 31.03.27 to cover Secondment. If you are a Hywel Dda University Health Board employee and are applying for this post as a secondment, agreement for the secondment is needed from your current manager prior to application.

Hywel Dda University Health Board are offering a fixed term/secondment opportunity for an experienced HCPC Biomedical Scientist to work as the Blood Sciences Service Manager.

As the Blood Science Service Manager, you will lead the service's four Blood Science laboratories in Bronglais, Glangwili, Prince Philip and Withybush Hospitals, as well the Health Board Point of Care Testing team.

We've recently replaced our equipment in biochemistry, blood transfusion, coagulation and haematology and have managed service contracts with Roche, Siemens and Ortho diagnostics.

This post is a fixed term/secondment position for 20 months, to provide essential leadership to the department.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will have the responsibility and accountability for ensuring the strategic direction, policy, provision, development and implementation of the Health Board wideBlood Sciences Service to ensure the delivery of a safe, effective and efficient service responsive to the needs of the users.

The post holder will be the lead on all matters relating to Blood Sciences. They will work independently with considerable freedom to act within the role, and will be required to interpret national policies, standards, guidelines and legislation and to implement these into local procedures.

As part of the Pathology senior management team, develop, plan, implement and manage all strategic, operational and performance activities for the Blood Sciences service, ensuring that it achieves its agreed objectives in line with corporate, clinical governanceand quality standards and with the current Pathology Modernisation agenda.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will regularly collate, analyse and present service-wide diagnostic workload activity data, monthly sickness figures, financial and workload indices for procurement and tender processes, budgetary costings for OOH working / workforce planning, modernisation, costper test for Pathology inter-trading project.

To collate, analyse and present POCT compliance variables, test requesting patterns, test repertoire production for Managed Service Contracts, analysis of Managed Service Contracts for cost-effectiveness from external providers.

  • Extensive prior experience at a senior BMS level
