About Us

We’re Blind Veterans UK, a charity that helps vision-impaired ex-service people from every generation rebuild their lives regardless of how or when they lost their sight. Founded in 1915 by Sir Arthur Pearson to support veterans blinded in the First World War, we have since supported those affected by vision loss in conflicts from the Second World War to the Falklands, Iraq and Afghanistan.

We are now looking for an Occupational Therapy Specialist to join us on a full-time, 12-month fixed-term contract, working Monday to Friday, 9am – 5pm, with flexibility dependent on service needs.

The Role
As an Occupational Therapy Specialist, you will support vision-impaired veterans through a range of therapeutic solutions, assessments and interventions.

With the aim of improving independence and wellbeing, you’ll develop and deliver outcome-focused therapies that promote safety and engagement in meaningful activities. You will help veterans adapt to sight loss and equip them with the motivation and ability to live full and independent lives.

You will also contribute to a multidisciplinary team, collaborating closely with other wellbeing professionals to develop holistic support strategies tailored to each veteran.

Additionally, you will:

– Carry out individual assessments and develop tailored intervention plans
– Support veterans to meet realistic and empowering personal goals
– Deliver interventions with a focus on daily living skills and psychological wellbeing
– Provide education and advice to veterans and their support networks
– Monitor progress and adjust approaches to maximise outcomes

About You

To be considered as an Occupational Therapy Specialist, you will need:

– HCPC registration
– A degree or higher qualification in Occupational Therapy
– Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
– A caring and empathetic approach with a strong commitment to veteran support

The closing date for this role is 18th July 2025. However, please note that we are interviewing as we go and may close applications early if we appoint a successful candidate.
