Job description

EDAG Engineering UK, part of the global EDAG Group, is a leader in engineering services for the automotive industry. We are experts in vehicle development across the complete spectrum of engineering disciplines. From pre-development, series development, individual components, modules and the development of entire vehicles, we combine expert knowledge with the latest trends in lightweight construction and material technologies.


As a BIW (Body-in-White) CAD Engineer, you will be responsible for the design and development of body structure components for automotive applications. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including design, manufacturing, and CAE, to ensure efficient and cost-effective solutions that meet performance and safety requirements.


Responsibilities include:
  1. 3D CAD Design & Modeling of BIW components using software like CATIA V5.
  2. 2D Drawing & GD&T application for manufacturing feasibility.
  3. Develop lightweight and crashworthy BIW structures.
  4. Work on welded assemblies, press-formed panels, extrusions, and castings.
  5. Ensure DFM (Design for Manufacturing) & DFA (Design for Assembly) principles.
  6. Collaborate with CAE, tooling, and manufacturing teams to optimize designs.
  7. Work with suppliers on material selection and manufacturing processes (e.g., stamping, joining techniques).
  8. Ensure compliance with automotive standards (e.g., Euro NCAP, FMVSS).
  9. Support design reviews, FMEA, and problem-solving initiatives.
Requirements
  1. Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Mechanical, Automotive, or Manufacturing Engineering
  2. 5+ years of experience in BIW CAD design within the automotive industry.
  3. Proficiency in CAD software (CATIA V5) and PLM tools.
  4. Experience leading cross-functional teams and supplier collaborations.
  5. Knowledge of stamping, welding, riveting, and adhesive bonding processes.
  6. Experience with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) and technical drawings.
  7. Understanding of crashworthiness, NVH, and structural durability considerations.
  8. Good communication and teamwork skills for cross-functional collaboration.
  9. Proven experience in cost management, supplier negotiations, and product optimisation.
  10. Strong problem-solving skills with experience in DFMEA, PFMEA, and root cause analysis.
  11. Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management abilities.
  12. Experience with composites & aluminum structures (desirable).
  13. Exposure to BIW cost reduction & weight-saving strategies (desirable).
  14. Familiarity with APQP, PPAP, and automotive quality processes (desirable).
  15. Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing certification (desirable).
