Job description


We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated individual with clinical research experience to join our friendly team working in Sutton within paediatric drug development. The successful applicant will have demonstrable experience in sample management / data processing in the context of research governance. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required for this role.
• To work as part of the Children and Young people’s Research and Drug development team organising sample collection, working within the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust (RMH) and our Academic Partner Institute of Cancer Research.
• To be responsible for collecting and processing blood and tissue samples for multiple clinical studies across the institution and its partners St Georges Hospital Tooting and Kings Collage Hospital Denmark Hill.
• To be responsible for coordinating and arranging the transfer of tissues samples from other NHS organisations across the UK and similar health institutions abroad in accordance with local and national policy for the transfer of tissue samples for research purposes.
• To be trained in the basic scientific techniques necessary for processing and storing tissue, blood bone marrow and CSF samples within RMH.

For further information on this role, please see the attached detailed Job Description and Person Specification:
• Collection and processing of clinical samples (tissue, blood & CSF etc…) across the CYP research teams trial portfolio. On occasions may be required to travel to St Georges hospital and Kings College Hospital for sample collection.
• Liaise with clinicians, surgeons, research nurses, pathologists, and laboratory staff to identify and co-ordinate sample collection.
• Ensure that the principles of the Human Tissue Act and GCP are always upheld and that all samples collected have appropriate patient consent.
• Ensure sample integrity is always maintained and samples are transported to an appropriate storage facility in a timely fashion.
• Dispatch samples to collaborators following developed SOPs or ethically approved protocols. Document any deviations from protocol and inform the Tissue Bank Manager.
