Job summary

Recircle is hiring a Bioprocess Engineer to advance industrialisation of a bacterial bioprocess at our Sci-Tech Daresbury centre. You will work with our biotechnology and rubber materials teams to optimise propagation, enzyme production, and downstream processing from lab to pilot scale, aligning data with scale-up strategies. The role demands hands-on bioprocessing, DoE know-how, and strong collaboration.

Qualifications

• MSc or PhD in Bioprocess Engineering or related field.
• Hands-on experience with bacterial propagation in bioreactors (batch and fed-batch).
• Experience in downstream processing and enzyme production.
• Strong understanding of biochemistry and scale-up.
• Experience with DoE and data analysis.
• Excellent documentation and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform day-to-day bioprocess development across laboratory and pilot-scale environments.
• Design, operate, and optimise bacterial propagation and enzyme production in bioreactors (E. coli and other hosts).
• Develop and operate processing steps applying enzymes to rubber materials in batch and continuous systems.
• Characterise and optimise bioprocess parameters (kLa, oxygen transfer, mixing, pH, DO, feeding).
• Collect and analyse engineering data to inform full-scale-up activities (mass/energy balances, kinetics).
• Support technology transfer to external scale-up partners and service providers.
• Collaborate with biotechnology team to translate molecular insights into robust scale-up strategies.
• Maintain detailed records and participate in training and development.
