Job summary

Lonza in Slough is seeking an experienced Pilot Operations Lead to guide the MSAT Pilot Plant, leading a technical team across Upstream and/or Downstream pilot-scale operations. You will ensure high-quality, compliant output while maintaining safety, cost and delivery standards.

You will plan and execute pilot stages, oversee quality and batch logistics, mentor staff, and drive continuous improvement with a focus on safety and cost efficiency in a fully site-based role.

Qualifications

• BSc in a scientific or engineering discipline or equivalent.
• Experience in Upstream Processing (USP) and/or Downstream Processing (DSP).
• Proven pilot-scale expertise with technical leadership across routine and non-routine activities.
• End-to-end understanding of biopharmaceutical manufacturing and how pilot ops support development and tech transfer.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to troubleshoot complex technical challenges.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a team of direct reports.
• Plan, prepare and deliver pilot stages in collaboration with internal and external teams.
• Oversee quality, safety, and batch logistics for USP/DSP pilot facilities.
• Influence project discussions through technical knowledge and relationships with stakeholders.
• Manage performance, objective setting and staff development.
• Drive organizational change to improve business results and address training gaps.
• Lead continuous improvement activities including EHS processes and cost reduction.
