About the role

We are seeking applications from enthusiastic, capable, flexible scientists to become a Biomedical Scientist within our Haematology and Blood Transfusion department.

We are a vibrant and forward‑looking service undergoing significant development with a centralised blood sciences laboratory at Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital, Cramlington.

You will need to possess a relevant professional qualification to degree level or equivalent and HCPC registration.

Excellent technical, interpersonal, IT skills and a commitment to the development of your specialist knowledge is essential.

Key responsibilities

• The post holder will practice as a specialist registered Biomedical Scientist in the Haematology / Blood Transfusion Department, working as part of a team in the provision of a high quality diagnostic service to Northumbria Healthcare NHS FoundationTrust and General Practitioners. They will also participate in the supervision, training and development of Trainee/Newly Qualified Biomedical Scientists and Medical Laboratory Assistants.

About the service

We manage three major locality hospitals at North Tyneside, Wansbeck and Hexham, plus a number of smaller community hospitals and clinics from Tynemouth to Berwick on Tweed, in addition to our state‑of‑the‑art Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital, the first of its kind in England. • Automated Haematology
• Microscopy
• Haemostasis
• Special Haematology
• Blood Transfusion

The post holder will be expected to work as part of a team on a rotational basis throughout each section of the department.
