An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced HCPC-registered Biomedical Scientist to join TDL Pathology, the largest independent provider of clinical laboratory services in the UK. We are looking for an enthusiastic BMS to join our diverse and friendly team based at the Cleveland Clinic Hospital.

Our laboratory operates a 24-hour service with a multidisciplinary scope, ideal for specialists with experience across various disciplines. Blood Transfusion experience is essential, with regular rotations to keep your work varied and engaging.
Flexible Shift Patterns
This role primarily covers night, weekend, and late shifts, working 37.5 hours per week. A suitable shift pattern will be considered once you have completed full training and competency.

What You'll Be Doing Every Day
You will play a vital role in processing all pathology specimens across Haematology, Biochemistry, and Transfusion, working closely with Biomedical Scientist and Medical Laboratory Assistant colleagues to ensure smooth workflow. Your attention to detail will ensure tests are performed accurately, safely, and promptly, with specialised and urgent samples handled with the highest priority.

To help in the smooth and efficient running of a section within the Pathology Department to ensure safe, rapid, timely, and accurate reporting of results. Investigation and analysis of samples by techniques and testing that include Haematology, Coagulation, Biochemistry, and Blood Transfusion. The post holder will be required to work within any section of the department, including core and unsocial hours as required.
Main Duties: To include, but not be restricted to, the following duties:
1. Participate in all areas of laboratory bench work, adhering to standard operating procedures and participating in their regular review and update.
2. Multidisciplinary working as required.
3. Techniques and testing that include Haematology and morphology, Coagulation, Biochemistry, and Immunoassays, and Blood Transfusion (grouping, antibody investigations, and compatible unit and product issue).
4. Communicate patient results and answer enquiries from healthcare professionals, providing information regarding investigations required and explanation of results, within departmental guidelines and professional code of conduct.
5. Interpret clinical information and use scientific knowledge to process specimens for appropriate tests, seeking advice from senior staff and clinicians when necessary.
6. Undertake specimen preparation and analysis for a range of sample types.
7. Operate and maintain analytical equipment in the department.
8. Evaluate and monitor the accuracy and precision of investigations using appropriate quality control procedures.
9. Interpret complex scientific data and enter test results on the pathology computer system.
10. Check reports for further action by clinical staff.
11. Authorise reports as delegated within departmental policy.
12. Replace stocks of consumables and reagents when required and inform the Section Leader if backup stocks are low.
13. Assist in the preparation of documentation for UKAS (ISO) accreditation.
14. Solve complex problems within the work area, advising clinicians and senior staff of any clinical and managerial issues.
Training and Education:
1. Multidisciplinary training as required.
2. Maintain personal development and attend departmental meetings.
3. Maintain registration with HCPC, including a personal development portfolio as proof of competence to practice.
4. Keep abreast of developments in the discipline.
5. Develop junior colleagues by assisting in training and completing competencies for MLA and BMS staff.
Depending on experience, salary up to £50,000 including HCA.
