Biomedical Scientist - Microbiology | Permanent Opportunity | Milton Keynes
Job Title: Biomedical Scientist - Microbiology Location: Milton Keynes Contract Type: Permanent Hours: 37.5 hours per week (including 1 in 4 Saturdays on a rota basis) Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
Overview: A fantastic opportunity is available for a Biomedical Scientist to join a reputable Microbiology department in Milton Keynes , working with one of the UK's top private healthcare providers. This permanent post offers a structured career path and the chance to work with advanced diagnostic systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform diagnostic tests including bacteriology, mycology, parasitology, and virology using both culture and molecular techniques.
Process and analyse clinical samples from a range of specimen types (e.g., swabs, urines, bloods).
Operate and maintain microbiology analysers and automated systems (e.g., MALDI-TOF, PCR platforms).
Ensure compliance with infection control procedures and UKAS ISO 15189 standards.
Take part in audits, IQC/EQA schemes, and contribute to the development of SOPs.
Requirements:
HCPC-registered Biomedical Scientist (Microbiology discipline).
Strong post-registration experience in a clinical microbiology lab.
Confident in processing and interpreting microbiological cultures and rapid diagnostics.
Familiar with LIMS and electronic reporting systems.
Motivated, collaborative, and committed to continual learning and service excellence.
Working Hours & Contract Duration:
Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week.
Initial core hours (9:00 AM - 5:00 PM), moving to extended rota after training.
Permanent position with scope for career progression.
