Biomedical Scientist - Microbiology | Permanent Opportunity | Central London

Job Details
  • Location: Central London
  • Contract Type: Permanent
  • Hours: 37.5 hours per week (including 1 in 4 Saturdays on a rota)
  • Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
Overview

We are offering an excellent opportunity for a Biomedical Scientist to join the Microbiology Department at a renowned private healthcare organization in Central London. The role provides career progression, a competitive salary, and comprehensive benefits.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Perform routine and specialized diagnostic microbiology tests, including bacteriology, virology, parasitology, and mycology.
  2. Process various clinical samples accurately and efficiently.
  3. Operate and maintain microbiological laboratory equipment after appropriate training.
  4. Participate in internal and external quality assurance schemes.
  5. Support stock control, equipment evaluation, and method development initiatives.
  6. Follow laboratory policies, procedures, and UKAS accreditation standards.
  7. Collaborate with senior biomedical scientists and multidisciplinary teams.
Requirements
  • HCPC-registered Biomedical Scientist (Microbiology)
  • Post-registration experience in a UKAS-accredited Microbiology laboratory
  • Strong technical skills in bacteriology, virology, or related fields
  • Experience with LIMS systems and handling sensitive patient data
  • Team-oriented, committed to service excellence and continuous improvement
Working Hours & Contract

Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours weekly, initially 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM, transitioning to a 24/7 rota after competency sign-off. The initial contract is 3 months with potential extension based on performance.
