Job description

The Role

NHS Lanarkshire is seeking to recruit a Biomedical Scientist.

The post holder will process a broad range of specialist and routine laboratory diagnostic investigations in Microbiology, utilizing various scientific measurements and technical procedures on patient samples. They will provide advice to clinicians and healthcare staff regarding test appropriateness and time-scales.

The post holder is responsible for their own work, operates complex equipment using specialist training, solves problems, mentors less experienced Biomedical Scientists, and participates in training and supervision of Trainee Biomedical Scientists and Medical Laboratory Assistants.

  • State registration with the Health Professions Council is mandatory.
  • BSc honours degree in Biomedical Science or equivalent, acceptable for HCPC registration.
  • Evidence of specialist knowledge of discipline-specific procedures.
  • Continuing professional development evidence, such as a specialist portfolio, courses, training on new instrumentation, and reflective practice learning.

Note: A full UK/EU/EEA driving license is required where applicable.

Desirable skills

  • Specialist knowledge of Microbiology.

Contract details

Permanent, full-time positions (2 posts), 37 hours/week.

Location: University Hospital Wishaw, Microbiology Department.

Working pattern: Days, Evenings, Weekends, On-call.
