Due to the nature of work that Sonic Healthcare UK undertakes, our clients require that Employees filling certain roles, need, as part of their on-boarding to complete a DBS Check. This role falls in to the category of requiring a DBS check (standard).

About the role

A vacancy has arisen for a Biomedical Scientist (BMS) in our Infection Sciences Department based at Hemel Homestead Hospital following implementation of a new Pathology and Phlebotomy services programme commissioned by the Herts and West Essex Integrated Care Board with services set to commence from 1st March 2025. The laboratory at Hemel Hempstead and ESL Watford provides 24/7 testing for acute and urgent care areas of the hospital as well as some onsite testing for the local community. The successful candidate will join our team of dedicated biomedical scientists and associate practitioners in delivering a high-quality pathology service. The ideal candidate will be committed to service excellence and have a genuine desire for continued personal and professional development. Candidates should have a suitable approved undergraduate degree in Biomedical Science (or equivalent) and be registered with the HCPC. Previous hospital laboratory experience would be helpful, however full training will be provided for all work performed. The laboratory operates a 24/7 service so the successful candidate will be expected to participate in all shifts required to cover this timeframe.

Responsibilities include contributing to the delivery of pathology services in the Infection Sciences department, ensuring accuracy, timeliness and quality of testing, and supporting a 24/7 operation.

Qualifications & Experience
  • Approved undergraduate degree in Biomedical Science (or equivalent).
  • HCPC registration.
  • Previous hospital laboratory experience is desirable; full training will be provided.
  • DBS check (standard) is required as part of on-boarding.
  • Willingness to participate in all shifts to cover a 24/7 service.
