Biomedical Scientist Histopathology (Band 5)

LOCATION: Histopathology Department Airedale NHS Foundation Trust.

Integrated Pathology Solutions LLP is an innovative joint-venture pathology service between Airedale NHS Foundation Trust, Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust. This partnership delivers a high-quality pathology service through collaboration between three Trusts for the benefit of patient and service users.

The Department of Histopathology is looking to appoint 2 enthusiastic and motivated individuals to join the team at a Band 5 level on a one year fixed term contract.

It would be advantageous for the successful candidate to have previous experience of working within an NHS Histology Laboratory.

The successful candidate would be expected to participate in all areas of the lab including Cut Up, Main Laboratory and Further Work (Immuno and Special Stains) and should be able to discuss in detail the role that a Band 5 will play in the key areas of a Histology lab.

The candidate would also be expected to participate and help facilitate other areas of the laboratory including training and audits.

The role will involve interaction with multi different staff members. The candidate is therefore expected to be able to illustrate a collaborative and respectful approach to working.

Main duties of the job

The candidates should be able to help identify improvements and be able to listen and respect ideas from their colleagues.

The Department of Histology is ISO15189:2012 accredited and is also a recognised HCPC / IBMS training laboratory.

  • To work in the various areas of the Histopathology Department under the direction of the Section Leader providing an efficient, safe and high quality technical service. This will include the provision of technical advice to clinical staff.
  • To work as part of the Pathology team providing mutual support at all times ensuring that work is completed and that equipment is maintained appropriately. This may involve liaising with service engineers to resolve complex issues.
  • To liaise with other health care professionals and agencies to provide advice.
  • To undertake and comply with all departmental standard operating procedures and quality standards with regard to work selection and methods
