The South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw (SYB) Pathology Network is a fully integrated network providing pathology services across five regional sites.

Job Opportunity: Biomedical Scientist (Maternity Cover)

We invite enthusiastic, driven individuals to join our Haematology team at Sheffield Children's Hospital. This is a 12-month fixed-term position to cover maternity leave.

SYB Pathology aims to deliver excellent patient and clinician services, improve health outcomes, foster research and innovation, enhance healthcare efficiencies, and ensure a sustainable workforce that offers job satisfaction and career development opportunities.

Role Responsibilities

1. Provide scientific services to patients to assist clinical diagnosis.
2. Participate in a 24/7 shift rota as required.
3. Perform a range of complex analytical procedures, including manual, semi-automated, and automated tests.
4. Comment on and validate results in line with ISO 15189 standards.

Candidate Requirements

• Successful completion of IBMS Registration Portfolio and HCPC Registration.
• Post-registration haematology experience, ideally including paediatrics.
• Possession of an IBMS specialist portfolio in Haematology or Blood Sciences, or completion of CPSM Log Book with relevant experience, for Band 6 appointment.

Additional Information

This is a fixed-term contract of up to 12 months, subject to review in accordance with legal obligations and maternity provisions. Secondments require prior approval from your current line manager.

The role's banding depends on experience, starting at Band 5 unless the applicant meets the criteria for Band 6.
