BIOMEDICAL SCIENTIST - Haematology and Transfusion - Band 5/6
Permanent Contract - Full time (37.5h/week including participation in a 24/7 shift rota).
(Banding subject to agenda for change and meeting essential criteria for the role).
We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Biomedical Scientist to join our dedicated team. The Haematology and Transfusion team provides high-quality services to Stockport NHS Foundation Trust, including Stepping Hill Hospital, other specialist centres, and community health services.
The Blood Sciences Department processes over 8 million tests annually. Haematology and Transfusion utilize advanced analysers such as Atellica Hema, Sysmex CN, Menarini Resolution 9210, and Ortho Vision. The department also offers anticoagulant clinic services, including community clinics in GP locations throughout Stockport, providing opportunities for patient-facing roles. Experience in Anticoagulation is advantageous.

The successful candidate will have comprehensive practical and theoretical knowledge of routine haematology and blood group serology. Ability to prioritize workload during busy periods and drive service improvements to maintain ISO standards is essential. Appointees will rotate through all sections of the department as appropriate.
Participation in the 24/7 shift rota is expected within 3-4 months of joining. Previous out-of-hours (OOH) working experience is beneficial.
You should demonstrate self-motivation, organization, and active engagement in CPD activities. The role involves working alongside Medical Laboratory Assistants, Assistant Practitioners, Biomedical Scientists, and Clinical staff, with training to work in all lab sections.
The department is ISO 15189 accredited and holds IBMS training status. Current projects include new blood science analysers and a new LIMS system; the successful candidate will support these initiatives.
