Job description

The Role

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Biomedical Scientist under the Annex 21 Training Programme at University Hospital Hairmyres. The main duties of the role include:

  • Process a broad range of specialist and routine laboratory diagnostic investigations in Haematology/Blood Transfusion using a range of scientific measurements and technical procedures on patient samples.
  • Provide advice to clinicians and other healthcare staff as to appropriateness of tests and time-scales
  • Responsible for own work and use specialist training to operate complex equipment and solve problems
  • Act as a mentor to less experienced Biomedical Scientists and participates in training /supervision of Trainee Biomedical Scientists and Medical Laboratory Assistants

Annex 21

Applicants who do not meet the essential criteria will be considered under the Annex 21 training programme, where whilst undergoing training, they will be paid a % of the top of Band 6 and on completion of training will then move on to Band 6scale.

  • HCPC registration with the Health Professions Council is mandatory
  • BSc Honours degree in Biomedical Science or equivalent, which is acceptable for Health Professions Council registration
  • Formal evidence of specialist knowledge of a range of discipline specific procedures
  • Evidence of continuing professional development, for example, a specialist portfolio of development, attendance at specialist courses, training on new instrumentation and learning through reflective practice
It would be great if you also have
  • Licentiate of the Institute of Biomedical Science
  • Previous experience of working as a biomedical scientist in an NHS clinical laboratory environment
