Job description

Trident Healthcare is seeking a Band 5/6 Biomedical Scientist to join a leading Microbiology Department in an NHS hospital in Berkshire. As a Microbiology Biomedical Scientist, you will play a crucial role in performing diagnostic microbiology examinations and reporting on specimens to support patient treatment and care. Your expertise in interpreting culture plates and operating complex analysers, combined with the use of the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), will ensure the delivery of high-quality diagnostic services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct diagnostic microbiology examinations on a variety of specimens, including blood, cerebrospinal fluid, urine, faeces, sputum, tissues, and diverse secretions.
  • Utilise advanced interpretive skills to analyse culture plates and operate complex analysers.
  • Integrate findings with the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) for accurate and timely reporting.
  • Identify and interpret the presence of pathogens, including bacterial, viral, fungal, and parasitic organisms.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to provide insights that aid in patient treatment and care.
  • Maintain high standards of laboratory practice and ensure compliance with relevant regulations and guidelines.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Science, Microbiology, or a related field.
  • HCPC Registered
  • Proven experience in diagnostic microbiology and laboratory management.
  • Proficiency in using complex laboratory analysers and LIMS.
  • Strong analytical and interpretive skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
