Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for suitably qualified Biomedical Scientists to join our expanding All Wales Medical Genomics Service (AWMGS) working flexibly for 37.5 hours per week. These are permanent posts currently based at Canolfan Iechyd Genomig Cymru / Wales Genomic Health Centre.
The post holder will be working within the laboratorytechnicalteams/ subsections, working to support a range of patients requiring cancer, prenatal and rare disease testing.
The post holder will perform routine genetic testing using well-established and cutting-edge new technologies and analyses as directed by the Technical Section Leads. Other routine laboratory tasks may be allocated as necessary.

Main duties of the job

The AWMGS provides a comprehensive clinical genetics and laboratory service to the 3 million residents of Wales. Biomedical Scientist will be working within the Technical Section of the All Wales Genomics Laboratory, providing centralised technical services, including set up of tests and analysis of results, as well as tasks associated with laboratory maintenance, such as laboratory cleaning, equipment cleaning and verification, restocking of consumables and temperature monitoring. Welsh Government and the Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee are investing in the All Wales Medical Genomics Service to ensure patient equity across the UK in accessing genetic testing methodologies. The investment has seen a £10 million investment over a 3 year period to ensure AWMGS stays in the forefront of genomic medicine and develops the best diagnostic genetic services for patients. The Service encourages personal development and you will be expected to take an active part in the appraisal process. Not only is this a busy and challenging specialty but you would also be joining a friendly, dedicated team in Medical Genetics. The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
