Job description

An opportunity has arisen for an initial 12-month fixed-term post (37.5 hours per week) with the potential to be made substantive. The 37.5 hours may include weekend working.

We are seeking a Band 5 BMS Biomedical Scientist to join the Haematology and Blood Transfusion departments at Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust.

The ideal candidate will be well-motivated, enthusiastic, HCPC registered, and experienced in high throughput Haematology and Blood Transfusion. The department is IBMS approved for training and holds UKAS accreditation to ISO 15189.

Responsibilities include:

  • Participating in laboratory rotation across all sections of Haematology and Blood Transfusion to ensure quality service delivery.
  • Demonstrating good organisational, interpersonal, and communication skills, with the ability to work flexibly.
  • Having previous experience working in a UKAS accredited laboratory and familiarity with quality management systems.
  • Following training, participating in the out-of-hours service.
  • Working with equipment such as Horiba Yumizen H2500/H1500, Stago STA-R max, BioFlash, Sebia Capillarys 3, DS2, Immucor NEO IRIS, and EPIC Beaker. The department plans to install the Cellavision Digital Morphology system.
