Job description

We are seeking a HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist (BMS) with expertise and passion for histopathology to join Cyted UK Ltd's histology laboratory. The role involves participating in all aspects of providing a histopathology service, including analytical testing on biological samples, processing patient samples efficiently, and maintaining high standards in line with HCPC and ISO 15189 policies.

Working Pattern and Location

This is a full-time position (37.5 hours/week) based at Cyted’s Laboratory, Hinchingbrooke Business Park, Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, UK. Flexibility may be required.

Responsibilities
  • Perform technical work for the clinical service, including specimen preparation, dissection, embedding, microtomy, immunohistochemistry, and quality control.
  • Use histological knowledge to prioritize specimens and participate in urgent technical services.
  • Maintain laboratory instruments, troubleshoot issues, and train colleagues in histology procedures.
  • Participate in External Quality Assessment schemes and ensure compliance with confidentiality, health and safety, and legal standards like the Human Tissue Act.
  • Record data accurately on LIMS and communicate results to clinicians.
  • Engage in Continuing Professional Development as required by HCPC.

Person Specification
  • Experience in a cellular pathology laboratory.
  • BSc or equivalent in a biological discipline.
  • HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist.
  • Practical experience in histopathology techniques and laboratory record-keeping.
  • Ability to organize workload, computer literacy, and understanding of laboratory principles, ISO 15189, and health and safety regulations.
  • Knowledge of digital pathology is desirable.
Benefits
  • Salary: £28,000 - £41,000 depending on experience.
