Job summary

North West London Pathology (NWLP) is seeking a Biomedical Scientist to join the Blood Sciences laboratory. You will work under senior staff to handle, process and analyse clinical samples and authorise results, while keeping precise records to support the quality system.

Working with biomedical and clinical scientists, you will contribute to multidisciplinary services, uphold safety standards, participate in CPD, and support teaching and training across sections to maintain high-quality patient

Qualifications

• Biomedical Science degree or equivalent acceptable by IBMS /HPC for registration.
• H CPC Registration and clear understanding of Code of Conduct and Professional Standards of the HCPC.
• IBMS Specialist Diploma or demonstrate the equivalent depth and breadth of knowledge in the relevant discipline evidenced by competency documents or equivalent.
• Actively involved in Continuing Professional Development.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate effectively within the department to deliver a professional clinical laboratoryservice.
• Perform core scientific and interpretive work in line with the qualifications of a RegisteredHealthcare Scientist.
• Participate in appropriate training courses and continuous professional development (CPD)programs.

Job description

North West London Pathology (NWLP) is an NHS pathology partnership joint venture between Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, Chelsea & Westminster NHS Foundation Trust and The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. NWLP is modelled as a shared services organisation jointly owned by the three Trusts. The organisation is hosted by Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and as the legal entity for NWLP our staff are employed by Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.

NWLP is based on a ‘hub and spoke’ structure; the majority of routine, specialist and non-urgent activity is centralised at our hub site at Charing Cross Hospital. Urgent tests required for immediate patient management and treatment are performed in 24/7 Essential Service Laboratories based on-site within the seven hospital sites in the group.

Job overview

The successful candidate will work as an efficient and flexible member of the Blood Sciences laboratory, collaborating directly with biomedical and clinical scientists to deliver a high-quality clinical biochemistry service.

Under the supervision of senior scientific staff, you will participate in the accurate handling, processing and analysis of clinical samples & authorisation of results while maintaining meticulous records to support the laboratory’s quality system.

Additionally, you will ensure a safe working environment by adhering strictly to local and national safety guidelines, keeping laboratory equipment clean, calibrated, and well-maintained.

Continuous professional development is central to this role, requiring you to actively engage in ongoing teaching and training across various laboratory sections to continuously improve your skills and support excellent patient care.

NWLP Induction

The NWLP induction will run on the first Monday of each month (provided it does not fall on a bank holiday) and includes laboratory training (for relevant laboratory roles). All new staff must attend the NWLP induction during their first week with NWLP.

Education
