Job summary

NHS Tayside invites applications for a Chemistry Biomedical Scientist Band 5 (or trainee Annex 21 para. 2 (ii)) on a 1 year fixed term/secondment basis.

The role is based in the Blood Sciences Department across Ninewells Hospital, Dundee, with HCPC registration or IBMS accreditation pathway encouraged. You will work in a modern Biochemistry laboratory with Siemens automation, contribute to drugs of abuse testing, metabolic disorders, and protein analysis, and participate in out of hours sessions

  • Must be HCPC registered or willing to undertake IBMS registration portfolio to gain HCPC registration.
  • Demonstrates team spirit, initiative and flexibility with enthusiasm to train further.
  • Post qualification development encouraged and supported; out of hours work may be required.

This is an opportunity for a qualified HCPC registered Healthcare scientist or trainee working towards HCPC registration to work in a busy department which provides a full range of clinical and diagnostic services to NHS Tayside, North-East Fife and South Grampian.

The Blood Sciences Department is based on two sites at Ninewells Hospital, a large Teaching Hospital and Medical School, Dundee and Perth Royal Infirmary, Perth.

We are looking for a member of staff that can demonstrate team spirit, initiative, flexibility and has the enthusiasm to train further. You will be working in a fully refurbished state of the art laboratory with Siemens automation and to specialise in Biochemistry. The Department provides specialist services in Drugs of Abuse testing, metabolic disorders, protein analysis and Point of Care Testing.

Post qualification professional development is encouraged and supported. On attaining appropriate competences, you will have a sessional commitment to the Out of Hours sessions which will include weekend, evening and overnight duties.

You must be registered with the Healthcare Professions Council [HCPC] or have an IBMS accredited degree and willing to undertake the IBMS registration portfolio to gain HCPC registration.
