Summary

Serve as a biomedical equipment technician providing operations support at the Medical Equipment Repair Section.

Qualifications
  • Associates degree or higher, or equivalent (e.g., military training), as an electronics technician and/or Biomedical Equipment Technician.
  • Language Requirement: read, understand, speak and write English
  • Minimum of three (3) years hospital/healthcare experience performing medical equipment maintenance.
  • Office skills: working knowledge of computers, specifically the internet, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Access, Microsoft Excel, and Windows operating system.
  • Evidence of training, certifications, experience, and other qualifications for each biomedical engineering technician performing services under this contract. Evidence must include a list of types of equipment on which contracted personnel have experience performing preventative and corrective maintenance.
  • Public Health clearance is required; contractor shall submit immunization records and physical health certification with the proposal.
  • Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross shall be obtained prior to the contract start date.
  • Work Environment/Physical Requirements: may be required to work in hazardous environments with potential hazards including electrical shock, burns, gas fumes, radiation exposure, and biological contamination; potential nosocomial infections in clinics, isolation areas, operating rooms, wards, or with potentially contaminated medical equipment.
  • Physical Requirements: on-site work requiring standing, bending, and working in cramped and awkward positions; ability to lift up to 60 pounds; ability to handle hazardous materials and wear protective clothing as needed.
Additional Requirements
  • A valid driver’s license is required to drive Government motor vehicles to service medical equipment located in other buildings at Lakenheath, Mildenhall, and Feltwell.
  • Knowledge and ability to interpret and apply federal, state, local, and professional standards and regulatory requirements related to biomedical equipment and Environment of Care (EOC).
  • Certification by the American Association of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) or Veterans Administration Biomedical Equipment Technician is desirable.
The Duties Include But Are Not Limited To The Following
  • Repair, calibrate, and maintain medical equipment used in the healthcare field with minimal supervision.
  • Maintain documentation and reporting related to facility medical equipment maintenance.
  • Inspect and install medical equipment for use by physicians, nurses, scientists, or engineers.
  • Perform maintenance, testing, repair, and operation duties in accordance with OEM literature and guidance.
  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled preventive maintenance procedures.
  • Inspect, test, troubleshoot, and repair equipment for proper function.
  • Prepare work orders for equipment repair.
  • Setup and installation of assigned medical equipment throughout the organization.
  • Evaluate new pieces of electronic medical equipment.
  • Perform bench work on mechanical, electro-mechanical, pneumatic, and related equipment as necessary.
  • Keep records of maintenance, repair, and updates of equipment.
